Gestational diabetes (GDM) is a type of diabetes that develops during pregnancy. Most pregnant women can overcome the insulin resistance the occurs naturally during pregnancy. For others, this develops into GDM. All pregnant women with GDM should be referred to a dietitian for MNT. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always happen. If other clinicians are providing nutrition therapy, rather than a dietitian, the patient is likely missing the individualization that a dietitian can provide.
