Dementia is a general term that describes a decline in mental ability that is severe enough to interfere with daily life. This can include thinking, remembering, and reasoning. Currently, we have no known cause or cure for dementia. About half of all adults age 85 and older have some type of dementia, and experts think this number will continue to rise. Vitamin D receptors, which convert vitamin D to its active and ‘useable’ form have been found in the brain, specifically the same areas in the brain that correlate to learning and memory. As such, researchers have been studying a possible connection between vitamin D and dementia. Join Courtney Lee, MS, RDN, CDN, CLT, CFCS to examine the research on what could be a life-changing link.
